The flexible form factor solves a different problem: installation geometry. A rigid split core CT needs a window large enough for the conductor and clearance to open the clamp — which fails on multi-cable bundles, wide busbars, and the crowded interiors of existing switchgear. A rope CT is opened, wrapped around whatever is there, and closed. It installs on live conductors without disconnection, which is why it is standard for retrofits in occupied buildings and for temporary power quality surveys.
